How To Become A Successful Bricks And Clicks Business

marciacatlin · April 25, 2020 ·

brick-and-click ecommerce

A successful bricks-and-clicks business uses its online and offline stores in tandem, with each supporting the other in a single retail strategy. Here are some of the ways that can work.

Buy Online, Pick Up in Store

Online shopping can be convenient and exciting but often fails to satisfy a customer’s desire for instant gratification. While visiting a store fills this need, it usually comes with the hassle and inconvenience of physically searching for products and standing in lines. With online ordering and in-store pickup, customers don’t have to choose between convenience and instant gratification.

Better In-Store Browsing

Customers who are used to the selection offered by online shopping are often disappointed by the limitations of brick-and-mortar stores. Retailers with limited physical space can expand their selection by supplementing the in-store experience with tablets, and scannable QR codes.

Out Of Stock Dilemma

No one wants to waste a trip to the store for a sold-out product that the website says is in stock. To prevent overselling and customer dissatisfaction, bricks-and-clicks retailers need to keep their inventory up-to-date, and consistent across all stores, online and off.

Flexible Return and Exchange Policy

When it comes to customer returns, bricks-and-clicks stores have a huge advantage. When items purchased in a physical store can be returned online and vice versa, customers have the freedom to choose the most convenient option.

How To Select An eCommerce Platform

Stunning Showrooms

Many customers prefer to view products in all their glory, in realtime before they make a purchase. To engage these customers online, retailers
should recreate this experience on their site with digital showrooms and detailed product views.

Great Discounts & Convenience

Convenience and cost are the primary reasons consumers choose online shopping. Brick-and-mortar retailers looking to drive more business to their physical locations must offer promotions, coupons, and lower prices on a regular basis.

marciacatlin · April 1, 2020 ·

brick and mortar store online

Maybe your business is impacted by a sadly now familiar emergency or disaster.

Maybe all of your competitors are moving online. Or maybe your customers have a newfound preference for online shopping.

Pairing your brick and mortar with an online store is key.

For online retail, sales are expected to reach nearly $600 billion by 2024.

Combining online and offline retail efforts in your 2020 business plan have the power to amplify reach and sales. It is another stream of revenue for your existing stores or a back-up plan if your customers are unable to purchase on a specific channel.

eCommerce + Brick-and-Mortar Advantages

Depending on your business needs, there may be many different reasons to add an eCommerce channel to your business. Here are 5 reasons why you should consider adding eCommerce.

  1. Track customers to know what they really want.
Have direct access to your customers’ purchasing behaviors.
You can learn from these insights and make real-time changes to your store.
  2. Improve customer loyalty and experience.
The online experience adds convenience to your customers’ daily lives. They can engage with your business anytime, any place. This creates more opportunities for you to serve your customers with relevant, personalized content.

Selling online gives you an entirely new landscape to entertain and connect with your customers. Get creative when thinking about how you can merge your online and offline.
  3. Competition is moving online. Creating an online presence will give you a fair shot at challenging your competitors.
  4. Speeds up the buying process.
Customers can now engage with you at any time in any place when many of them can’t shop offline for various reasons.
  5. Engage customers of all generations.
While your business may thrive in a particular age demographic, selling online expands your reach which means you may discover customers from all generations.

The beauty of eCommerce is that you can create personalized experiences for every customer.

eCommerce Complements Brick-and-Mortar

Drive customers to your brick-and-mortar with in-store events or exclusive promotions (and vice versa).

Offer a wider product selection online. You may not be able to provide your entire inventory in-store. But, an online store makes it easy to display your entire offering — perhaps even products that haven’t been released yet.

Leverage your online store to showcase all your business has to offer and your brick-and-mortar to give customers a chance to interact with your products in person.

How To Build Your Online CBD Business

How To Build Your Online Hemp or CBD Business

Introducing a streamlined way for merchants to sell hemp and hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products online with BigCommerce. Here’s how to build your CBD business online.

BigCommerce for Hemp & CBD is now providing Hemp & CBD merchants a full-featured ecommerce platform.

It brings together industry-leading ecommerce tools and services tailored for hemp and hemp-derived CBD commerce, providing merchants and manufacturers a clear path to legally sell and distribute their products to U.S. consumers.

Unlike other hemp and CBD-friendly platforms, BigCommerce hosts your store and provides full access to their suite of tools to optimize your site, improve conversion rates and sell more.

Tremendous Challenges Solved

Despite the 2018 Farm Bill legalizing the sale of hemp products, many hemp, and hemp-derived CBD merchants are still subject to unfair and anti-competitive tactics across the eCommerce ecosystem. This includes high transactional fees from payment providers and outdated shipping regulations.

With BigCommerce for Hemp & CBD, merchants can power their hemp and CBD business and quickly get to market by benefitting from:

  • Hemp-friendly merchant services – Choose between multiple U.S.-based providers of merchant services without incurring additional penalties, fees or account reserves
  • Online & offline payment processing – Optimize customers’ checkout experience no matter where they shop with out-of-the-box PCI compliance
  • BigCommerce Shipping – Simplify shipping and fulfillment operations and increase margins with BigCommerce’s pre-negotiated rates with hemp-friendly carriers

CBD is a huge business opportunity. The cannabis industry is one of the fastest-growing in the nation, and CBD is one of the quickest growing sectors of that industry. Especially following the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp CBD products are proliferating at a fast rate.

Magento 1.0 End of Life Countdown

COMMERCE BEYOND LIMITS
Innovate, outperform and overachieve with BigCommerce, the industry’s most versatile enterprise solution. Now it’s time for the Magento migration to BigCommerce

In September last year, Magento announced that they would be sunsetting Magento 1. In other words, all early versions of their products (1.1-1.9)
would no longer be supported with maintenance and security patches.

The official end-of-life date for versions Magento Commerce 1 (formerly Enterprise Edition) and Magento Open Source 1 (formerly Community Edition) is June 2020.

Understandably, some businesses facing this re-platform are considering their options. Setting up Magento 1 and moving to Magento 2 is both expensive and time-consuming.

Businesses can consider moving from Magento 1 to a SaaS platform like BigCommerce where they can often launch faster (on average 50% faster) and on a more reasonable budget compared with Magento 2.

Stay a step ahead with SaaS

Leverage best-in-class uptime, performance and protection to outpace competitors. With the power of Google Cloud Platform, BigCommerce offers multiple layers of security, unparalleled bandwidth, and blazing-fast speed so you can focus on generating sales — and less on maintaining your site.

Focus on sales and innovation. Not on monitoring and maintenance.

With a lower total cost of ownership, BigCommerce showcases an intuitive interface, and expert services to minimize your time-to-market.

Built for growth, the BigCommerce platform offers advanced merchandising tools, one-page checkout and a fully customizable theming engine.

Platform Flexibility and Extensibility
Your business and your brand are unique. You need to look for an e-commerce platform that has the flexibility and extensibility to work for your product, customer, and business needs. It also needs to be able to grow with your business.

One of the major selling points of Magento is its flexibility. You have complete control to mold the platform to your needs (with all the costs those changes entail). But with Magento, the more you customize the more expensive and harder your store is to manage and maintain.

Magento Migration to BigCommerce

It’s possible to get the same extensibility through a SaaS platform, provided you choose one like BigCommerce that is set up with enterprise-class integrations, flexible APIs and webhooks. These features will enable you to customize your platform for selling online with a great deal of flexibility, even though you don’t have access to the source code.

What is The Cost of An Online Store?

marciacatlin · January 17, 2019 ·

cost of online store

Fred, who we recently met in our e-commerce Facebook group, operates a brick and mortar store. He is angling to start his own e-commerce site. “How much money did you spend on getting your store up and running and how long did it take to get a return on your investment?”, he asks.
Answer: It all depends on your market/target audience/turnover.
One participant responds, “I was on eBay for 8+ years before going to a website. I was sick of being a needle in a haystack and being eBay’s slave. You have to be constantly driving traffic to your website, but a website that will help compliment the retail world and the Internet world.”
“Regarding my own customized theme, I think I spent about $2K. The free ones now look good if you have good product photos, etc.,” she added.
More E-Commerce Suggestions
What is your retail business? Start by researching to see if similar businesses exist, what price points they sell at and if there is much interaction such as product reviews, forums/facebook chitchat about those items/services.
Professional web design fees can run about $10,000. The right agency will listen to your needs and help you choose the best technology for your company. ROI will depend on your industry, margins, and overall investment. E-commerce is a great business to be in and it will supplement, and probably overtake your in-store sales numbers.
The thing you need to know up front is that building the site is just the beginning. It takes either a lot of time or a cash investment to drive traffic and will for the foreseeable future. The days of “build it and they will come” are gone.

First of all, outline your goals

As a brick and mortar store, your local customers will be the first ones you tell about your site. Your site may both increase your total sales, and cannibalize a bit of your local in-store traffic. Consider offering free local delivery and you may find your local business greatly increases.
If you go online to expand your geography, what will your store bring to the web that isn’t already there? Is it a unique product, with distinctive packaging,
or some other “cool” factor?
Why Would Online Shoppers Prefer Your Site?
So, of course, you need a budget for marketing, advertising and search engine optimization. Ads bring immediate revenue. SEO takes time to simmer, but eventually brings you unpaid traffic (minus whatever you originally spent to earn it).
Then, know that if you’re only enhancing local service and you don’t wish to spend what it costs for development, you may want to do it alone, using a premade template (customized for your store) and the knowledge base for BigCommerce.
Consider our BigCommerce Startup Special for only $999. It includes everything you need to get up and running quickly, affordable and hassle-free.
As to how soon to expect a positive ROI? That is a question based on what you offer, what you can invest, and how hard you plan to work it. Just putting up a site, without a strategy and professional finish, will generate very little, and in some cases, nothing from people who don’t already know and trust your brand.
